Aloha!

The Ironman World Championship kicks off tomorrow! Having lived in Kona for 24 years, I never get tired of this event—it’s incredible every single time. Sure, traffic jams come with it, but the energy and excitement are worth it, don’t you think? It's "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP"  My second daughter will be volunteering for the first time.

This morning, preparations were in full swing, with the finish line being set up beautifully.

Traffic Notice:
Ali’i Drive from King Kamehameha Hotel to just before Kona Inn is closed from midnight until Sunday, 3 PM.

There were lots of Ironman swimmers in the ocean along with a bunch of DOLPHINS—quite a sight.

Palani & Kuakini: Traffic Updates

  • Palani Road: Closed from 6 AM to 1 AM the next day.   Best strategy is to Avoid KONA unless you are coming to see the Ironman race.
  • Henry Street: Open, but Kuakini faces similar closures as Palani.

Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway:

  • Palani to Airport: Southbound lanes closed 6 AM–1 AM; northbound lanes remain open.
  • Airport to Kawaihae: Closed 7 AM–6:30 PM; use Waikoloa Road as a detour.  Race permitting, they will allow traffic.
  • Kawaihae to Hawi: Closed 8 AM–4:30 PM.

Additional Info:

  • Kona Transfer stations closed on Saturday.
  • Allow extra time if traveling to the airport.

I’ll be out cheering tomorrow—hope to see you there!
