From Dream to Reality: My Journey to Owning a Fodera Bass

Kai and I both share a love for music – he plays guitar (and actually sings), while I stick to the bass (and sing too, but mostly in the shower… ha!).

I’ve been playing bass for over twenty years, mostly as part of church worship teams, playing contemporary worship music. My trusty companion for nearly 17 of those years has been a gorgeous, custom-built, 5-string Pedulla bass. It’s been with me for so long and, thanks to my care, still looks brand new. I’m not one to collect a bunch of different guitars and switch them up weekly – I prefer investing in something I love and using it for the long haul.

That said, I’ve always admired Fodera basses – the “Rolls Royce” of the bass world. For years, I had my eye on different models, dreaming about owning one someday. Then, one day, I stumbled across a custom-built Fodera originally made for a collector. For whatever reason, he didn’t go through with the purchase, and the bass ended up staying at SlapStore in Chile. Production of this kind of instrument could take up to a couple of years… I like to think it was just sitting there, waiting for me!

Getting it from Chile to Hawaii was an adventure, but the SlapStore owner, David Wause – a fellow bass enthusiast – made it happen. He personally brought it to the U.S. and then shipped it to Hawaii. Now that’s customer care!

My wife, Tasha, had a blast filming me as I unboxed my dream bass, and I posted the video on Instagram. I’m no pro vlogger, so I was pretty blown away when it racked up over 2,500 views! It was fun seeing so many friends share my excitement. If you’re curious, you can check out the video on my Instagram. Our little Luna was more than curious about the whole opening ceremony… 🙂

Now that this beauty is finally in my hands, I’m beyond thrilled. It sounds just as incredible as it looks. I just hope that if a professional bass player ever sees me with a Fodera, they’ll go easy on me – I’m just a passionate enthusiast, not a pro!
